The Chambers of We Heart Math:
The chambers of We Heart Math represent the core beliefs that each and every member of our team hold.
Integration of Math & Art
Art integration starts with the wish to see students more engaged and excited about learning. Research shows that bringing art into math classrooms not only benefits engagement, but allows for deeper understanding of math concepts.
Building Community
At We Heart Math, we strive to build positive connections: between student and mentor, and students among students. We aim to provide a safe, supportive environment where students can learn to be open and communicate their ideas.
Success for All Students
Often, children are affected by the fixed mindset of society, especially in STEM subjects like Math. However, we recognize the potential every student has and we want them to see it in themselves, too.
Math Literacy is the Key to Success
Numerous studies have linked mathematical abilities and a person's success later in life. We, too, believe that math literacy leads to infinite success and growth in a variety of areas. When students enjoy math, math learning is more effective.
Fixed vs. Growth Mindset
In a fixed mindset:
intelligence is static.
Intelligence and ability are fixed qualities from birth that cannot be changed significantly.
In a growth mindset:
intelligence can be developed.
Intelligence and ability can be developed with effort, strategies, and support
Students develop math skills incrementally over many years. However, many people come to believe math ability is innate— causing them to develop negative feelings towards math, something known as math anxiety. Math anxiety hinders students' achievements, and is developed when students are exposed to fixed mindset thinking. See the videos below for more on math anxiety and fixed mindsets.
